Let's create a revolution in the way we live and experience beauty in our lives. This is the time the ancients have prepared us for, and Savage Designs is spinning new threads of the web…or maybe just mending them. We envision a resurgence of people wearing natural fibers, with bioregional clothing and dyeing as the norm. A revival in the thousands-of-year-old practice of Ayurvastra Medicinal Clothing, an Ayurvedic practice of using medicinal plant dyes to promote healing and balance. Our vision is to help you untame your life, and we provide Savage Lifestyle tips to spark some untamable ideas. Isn't it time to move on from our our old ways of thinking? Our old ways of doing things? We can create something wonderful for our children, have fun during the transformation, and here at Savage Designs we believe it is the next evolutionary step.

WHAT WE DO

We make stylish and unique clothing, beauty products, and home interior items that are made from wild plants. We support the health of our customers and the health of the planet through a complimentary bag of nettle tea, Wild Styling Comb made of bamboo and nettles, and a clothespin to encourage you to line dry your clothing. We give 1% of our profits to the Fibershed Project, in support of bioregional clothing production and education.

An allergy to stinging nettles in 1998 led Sunny to question why. Why this plant and no other? Those questions led to a dream, and an awakening in the morning, to make stylish clothing out of nettles. Months were spent researching who might be keeping the ancient nettle fiber practice alive. Then, an adventurous 11-day trek to the foothills of Mt. Everest in Nepal in 2007 to meet the Kulung Rai...an indigenous tribe who has kept the traditions of the nettle harvest, processing, spinning, and weaving alive. Allo (Girardinia diversifolia)...the Giant Himalayan Stinging Nettle...opened the door to a relationship with the Kulung Rai, and a deeply healing mission to educate people about the potential of not only this fabulous fiber, but of natural fibers that are available in bioregions around the globe. A studio in Topanga Canyon, CA was opened in 2008/2009, where women were hired to lovingly cut and sew the nettle fabrics into stylish couture clothing. Stardust, a designer, was hired for one year to help in the co-creation of our designs. We were the first company in the USA to offer custom avant-garde nettle clothing, and remain so to this day.

Our goal is to sell all of our inventory by December 21, 2012. The release of this already-created clothing will allow space. Space to create anew. In an ending we find a beginning. We have entered the Build-a-Business Competition, and have a goal to win this competition and receive the $50,000 prize so that we could potentially begin designing clothing made from tropical plants and increasing our practice and understanding of Medicinal Clothing. This is where we are with wild and natural fibers now. We cannot see the future, but as Sunny leads the Savage Imagination Team, we can only imagine it will be wild!
